A few questions..

I'm so thankful to have found yall...or rather yall found me. M & I have decided not to tell anyone about this process at least until after our first appt in March so having yall to talk to is so nice. I now have someone to share my excitement with. Thanks for listening.

I do have a few questions if you don't mind sharing.

1. How did you decide which bank to use? We had decided on Fairfax since they are in driving distance however after hearing about Estelle and Jeans issue with them we're reconsidering
2. What was your determining factors in choosing a donor?
3. Did your insurance cover the insemination procedures? Mine does not
4. Is there anything you wish you had done differently to lesson the stress?

I'm trying to compile a list of questions for our visit in March. I'll take whatever input yall can give me.

Most the people we know used California CryoBank. They seem to be the biggest with the largest selection. We didn't necessarily love their customer service. We did use them twice but then began looking at other banks. We found Xytex which we loved!!! Love their processes, customer service, and especially like they had baby and adult pictures of the donor. Plus you can pay one time to look at all profiles versus paying per profile.

In choosing a donor our number one requirement was that they were an open donor. That narrowed the field down quite a bit. Then we wanted someone who has successful reported pregnancies. Again, narrowed the list down. Then we simply looked for donors that had the non-bio mom's characteristics.

Insurance covered nothing! The only covered were a few procedures and medications when we did IVF.

Last, to lesson the stress, arm yourself with information. I'll say it again. You have to control this process. Don't rely on your doctors!

We used a bank here but their supply ran low, so now we are using California Cryobank.
We choose donors based on non-bio moms charecteristics too.
Just make sure you write all your questions down, and don't leave the appointment until you are satisfied.

1. How did you decide which bank to use? We're using CA cryobank - we like what they offer (baby photo, audio sample, etc) plus we've had great counts and I've been very happy with their customer service.
2. What was your determining factors in choosing a donor? Known pregnancy, medical history, chromosomal testing, traits that we liked (musically gifted)
3. Did your insurance cover the insemination procedures? At first no, but we switched and now it covers everything for IUIs.
4. Is there anything you wish you had done differently to lesson the stress? Yes... done as much testing upfront to figure out what obstacles we were up against. It took over 7 months for me to get a diagnosis of stage 3 endo. We wasted a lot of time & money those first 7 months, since there was NO way I would've gotten pregnant via IUI with my endo. Also, schedule date nights with no talk of trying to get pregnant, research-research-research and don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions.
