Guess who slept the whole night thru like a big girl!?
GRACIE!
8 hours of uninterrupted sleep!
Well, for Mommy M. I got up at 3 to pump but still....Gracie slept for 8 hours!

When did you little one start teething? Gracie is drooling and chewing on anything she can get her hands on...including her hands. She's been a little fussy too. Could it be?

Ok, so I froze some breast milk a few weeks ago since we seemed to have more than enough and now we seem to be getting to the point of NOT having enough. I mean we do have enough but I'm having to use a bag everyday or so.
Suggestions?
And how long did you breastfeed?

Oh! And I almost forgot! I'm shedding like a dog! I don't have that much hair to start with and what little I do have is falling out. Is this a normal after pregnancy thing?

YAY for sleeping through the night!!!
I did the middle of the night pumps for a long time because I could get so much milk then - for the fridge and the freezer, it was extra since he wasn't eating at that time anymore. It really helped to keep my supply up for a long time and helped to keep him satiated during the day as his appetite increased and my day time supply lessened.
We breast fed until his first birthday - he weaned himself and probably would have stopped a week sooner but I wanted to keep up with one feeding until he was one. We started supplementing with formula at 9 months.
Definitely could be teething. Little J started teething around 4 months but we didn't actually see any teeth for about 2 more months.
Hair falling out - totally normal. Your body doesn't do ANY shedding while you are pregnant which is why many women have such great hair while pregnant and then between 3-6 months postpartum it all starts falling out. Don't worry though - you are only losing the hair you would have shed anyway in the last year- you aren't losing MORE hair.
Cutie pictures. :)
totally normal to lose your hair. it comes back and you have "babyhair" all around your face and all over your head. it is quite funny at times. no one ever tells you this stuff.
we started using formula around 4 weeks. she was weaned by 6 weeks. it just wasn't for us and she is perfect!
Wow 8 hrs! HC has still not done that at 10mo!
I try to pump at work for every feed I miss. So if she is taking three bottles, then I pump three times, twice- twice. I had not been pumping on my days off, but somehow we went from having 20 bags of breastmilk in the freezer to two, so I had to start pumping once on my day off. I feel better if I have a little stash.
I have thought HC was teething since 4mo, she in 10mo and still has no teeth.
Hair everywhere her too
I am planning to breastfeed as long as she wants. I hear they normally wean on their own around 2.5yrs old. Not sure
Way cute pictures!
Woot woot for sleeping through the night, that's awesome! She's so stinkin cute! She's definitely teething at this point in my opinion, my kids had a tooth by four months but drooled like crazy and chewing on everything before then. I always thought the Hyland's Teething Tablets were the best to help make them more comfortable. You can always give her some Tylenol if she's fussy. Cold toys and a cold washcloth to chew on are very helpful. I breastfed for 13 months with my son and 16 months with my daughter. Both weaned themselves since food was more in their diet than milk by that point. I pumped whenever I missed a feeding or during the night to help stock my freezer. Oh, and your hair falling out..yep, I agree with the others, totally normal and happens to all of us moms! It doesn't last long though, it's just your whacked out hormones from pregnancy and delivering.
Best and scariest feeling, isn't it? When Lucas slept through the night, I woke up freaked out in the morning! He slept through since he was about a month old...
And, he did the whole chewing, drooling thing early, too but we didn't see actual teeth--two; one one day and the second the next day--for about two months!
Yes, my hair fell out a lot... it's the hormones. But, I still take prenatals, to hopefully keep my hair growing. I also don't have a lot to begin with!!
ps-- love the elephant shirt! ;-)
I had to give up nursing altogether at six weeks and pumped and bottle fed breast milk until 6 months with my third son. I'd struggled with nursing with all my babies and just couldn't face it anymore. I won't go into details, but it was horrible... infections, lactation consultants.. the works.
I would have liked to go longer than 6 months, but my supply really dwindled. Guess full-time pumping isn't a perfect substitute for feeding.
I say all this, to give you perspective (which I recall is sometimes hard to find with a first baby). We all do the best we can, and even if you find you have to supplement a bit with formula, don't worry. She's still getting all the good stuff, the antibodies and the Momma love!
Lora
With Abby I breastfed for 2 weeks. Maddy 8 months and Roger 16 months. If you need to have more supply to freeze you can up your water intake, take something called Fenugreek from GNC and you can also drink something called mothers milk tea also from GNC. You can also eat lots of regulat oatmeal. All these things will help make a better supply and will not harm gracie. Also when you are home do not use a bottole. only nurse her and that will also help your supply.
I've been following your family for a bit, absolutely so happy for you and your wife. Late congrats on your new addition...and big congrats for her sleepting through the night! :)
Your family is so cute and happy - gives me hope for my future
Yes, hair does weird things after pregnancy. I had little short baby hairs framing my face. Those pics are so cute. Love the one of her in her crib sitting up amongst her babies. I'd love to see more pics of her nursery. From what I can see it looks bright and sunny and adorable. And I LOVE the curtains.
Yes your hair falls out after pregnancy. Also breastfeeding sucks calories. You lose weight and hair. Teeth can start anywhere from 3 to 4 to 6 mths. All babies are different. Don't hope for it. Once it starts it's a roller coaster ride of one after the other. I breast fed to six months. It is all I could handle. He was just about on a sippy cup. And he hated bottles. So we never did do bottles. I lost quite a bit of hair all over from radiation treatment and my beautician told me to get flax seed oil capsules and do you know I take two a day and my hair is thicker than ever. They seem to work.
I have never had a baby but when we owned our health food store I heard many stories from our customers, including the hair loss, so obviously it's normal. As Candy suggested, take Flaxseed Oil (or grind up the seeds and add it to your food) as it's one of the major sources of Omega 3 fatty acids which helps a lot of things including hair, skin etc, PLUS it's good for the baby!
If she's teething (sounds like it) get some Hylands Teething Tablets...they're tiny homeopathic tablets that dissolve immediately when they get moist. Slip one into a teaspoon of water on a spoon and into Gracie's mouth. We used to sell lots of them and every parent swore by them! They're very safe.
Yay for Gracie sleeping through the night! :)
